Dedicated to Cuban musician Bebo Valdes, this animated feature took the Best Film Award at the International Animation Festival in Holland.

Directed by Trueba and Javier Mariscal hand, won the Award for Best Film at the International Animation Festival Holland (HAFF) by unanimous decision of the jury.

Through this FIML viewers will be moved to "a vivid and vibrant time in the history of jazz".

"It's a classic love story that unites different continents and time points, using music to weave a web of memories and nostalgia to create a beautiful and sad story," said the jury.

"Chico & Rita" tells the love story between a pianist and a singer, for whom life is coming together and apart, like a bolero. Moreover, it is also the story of New York and Havana between 40 and 50.

The soundtrack of this co-production between Spain and the UK is run by Bebo Valdes, who was assisted by Estrella Morente and an impressive list of Cuban and American musicians. Its release is scheduled for November 19 in the UK and Ireland.

Five films presented in Animacam are competing in the Ourense Film Festival

This week, Ourense is celebrating the OUFF: XV Ourense International Film Festival, Animacam friend festival. Following the opening party last Saturday with the film 18 meals, produced by Tic Tac Producciones and directed by Jorge Coira, this week there are eleven screens projecting films in Ourense, aimed to show the selected films of the 15th edition. The Festival Organizing Committee has selected four animated films that are also present in the III International Festival of Animation Online: Lebensader by Angela Steffen, Fard David Alapont and Luis Briceno, Frère Benoît et les Grandes Orgues by Michel Dufourd and Nocta by Iván Díaz. In addition, in a new Section called Made in Ourense, there is another film: Nouturnio de Celanova, by Raúl García.

The German Angela Steffen introduced her new animation Lebensader, a beautiful story between a father and daughter in which she explains the universe is through a small piece of a tree. By Luis Briceno and David Alapont, with the production Jeremy Rochigneux, Fard is a new short film blessed with a classic sense of style. With its soft color palette and clean lines, Fard evokes a kind of classic neo-futurism.

The Swiss Michel Dufourd presents Frère Benoît and the great orchestra, a story that takes place in a medieval monastery featured by Brother Benoît, a burly, friendly, bumbling monk has just received orders from his superiors to clear the huge organ in the church. Accompanied by Françoise, his chicken, try to do his best. Despite their good intentions, it triggers a catastrophe after another. Finally, Iván Díaz, a prominent promoter of Gata Estudio, after participating in the last edition of Animacam with his work Cuervo- also selected in last year's OUFF-back showing his new film: Nocta. A work that shows the consequences of a night of partying, alcohol and psychotropic substances.

Finally, Nouturnio de Celanova is a 3D animation made by Raúl García from Ourense. Nominated in the Galician Awards Mestre Mateo for best animated short, it´s based on the poem "Nouturnio" written by Manuel Curros Enríquez, the short tells the story of an old man sentenced to flee their homes to face the "nouturnio" of his life.

325 films from 66 countries are competing in Animacam.tv 2010

After finishing the Submission of Films, from today until October the 23, the public around the world can vote their favourite film through the website. They will decide the three films winners of this Edition. Participants will compete for three prizes of € 2,000 each, within the three Categories (Short Film, Multimedia and Retrospective). The awards of this International Festival of Animation Online, based in Ourense - Spain, it is sponsored by XACOBEO S.A.

In the Official Competition of this third edition, there are 325 films of 200 Directors from 66 countries of the five continents (Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Lithuania, Morocco, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Peru, Republic of the Congo, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA, Uruguay, Uzbekistan and Venezuela).

The Themes of the films were varied and plural: social denunciation against war, repression, violence and racism, the fears, phobias and personal affairs, the familiar and couples relationships, etc. This year, the satirical and burlesque sense of humour had strong presence, annoyed by the current crisis and its own human social dramas of everyday life. It is also remarkable the large number of projects that express their message through visual poems, seeking to give the image the highest artistic expression.

The Authors of the animations come from a wide and diverse range of ages and backgrounds: from young animators, through global industry professionals (like BRB International, creator of the cartoon landmarks as David The Gnome or Sandokan), to veterans in Central America (Joaquin Carrasquilla from Panama) and Europe (the Italian Federico Anastasi). Among many other remarkable works, this year we have the nominated for an Oscar in 2010 and awarded with the Spanish Goya in 2009 "The lady and the reaper" –produced by Antonio Banderas-, and the documentary made by the Divulgare Group from the University of Vigo, titled "The importance of lizards in island systems” (Science Oscar Award by the magazine The Scientist), based on a study of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands in northwest of Spain.

At the same time, the Festival received the participation of students from prestigious animation training schools in Europe (such as Gobelins the Ecole de Image of France) and America (like Vancouver Film School in Canada).

This Year, there was released in the Official Section, Cartoons Made by Children.
Such is the case of PDA (Little Animated Doodles) a Catalonian initiative which takes part around the world to make animated films with children between 8 and 12 years old. From the United Kingdom, the Festival also received two films made by children coursing 4th of Primary, directed by the animator David Bunting, and from Galicia (Spain), students in 4th of Secundary from the Pino Manso High School in O Porriño (Pontevedra), developed in traditional 2D short film, which it is in post-production process, and it was led by the mentor Carlos Lago, Professor of Plastic Education.

The Presence of Women Animators, this third year, was very striking
: whereas in 2008 (the date of the 1st Edition) women's representation was limited to five animators, in this third we had more than fifty authors showing their works, with outstanding women animators such as the French Monique Renault or the Spanish María Lorenzo, and new animation talents such it is the case of Maryam and Azadeh Khalilzade Moezzi, from Iran.

More Animacam releases from everywhere and everytime

Again, we start another day with more Animacam releases, and touching the edge of the deadline for submission of works, we are really surprised with the quality and quantity of animation works that have arrived in the Official Selection of Animacam. This demonstrates the creative and technical ability with which have the animators, who, from all over the world, have as their animation home Animacam Festival. This time, experienced animators, new talent and great producers are part of the billboard today presenting works from France, Spain, Iran, Chile and Belgium.

The French well-experienced animator Monique Renault, starring in a post in Women Animating, collaborates and participates with the Festival sending lots of her animations. She presents an animation from 1973 entitled À la votre, in which a beautiful young woman and a mini-Superman are coaxed into a curious erotic game. The Iranian animator Maryam Mcharmi involved with a work focusing on the sadness and anxiety of an iron man who is tired of life and committed suicide, made an interesting traditional 2D: Earth is a circle. The animation study Pigmalion presents Waiting in the woods, a film directed by Alexander Bueno and Jessica G. Serna on hopes of a man in a forest and the strange curse that falls on it. A curious drama developed in stop-motion.

The Belgian producer
Zorozabel presents an animation directed by Noémie Marsily & Carl Roosens entitled Poodle (Caniche), a traditional 2D comedy that tells the story of a woman’s magazine is carried by the wind. Beauty advices come out from the magazine and get a running dog worked-up. The dog takes the magazine back to his tower home : a new body and a new heart for the little dog !. The date to note is the following: “Love is a poodle's chance of attaining the infinite.” Louis-Ferdinand Céline. Finally, the Chilean artist Braulio Raimilla Pavia from Producciones Arquetípicas presents Dagon, a literary adaptation that tells the story of a fisherman who uses alcohol to escape the visions he had after surviving a shipwreck, and fear every second to return to for him those visions.

The final countdown... Just three days for the deadline

After weeks and weeks of Festival, a festival that lasts throughout the year, just three days to the deadline for receipt of Official Competition works, we are debuting five animations to start the week with energy. This time, we show movies that arrived from Spain, Greece, Belgium and Finland, as the dough mixing techniques, the 2D and 3D.

Sanni Lahtinen, Finnish student animators and animation art, presents his work Murto (housebreak), an elaborate film made in clay which tells the story of a thief after a robbery of diamonds, is enclosed in a cache as a bird pet. From Belgium, Jean Debauche in Eenzam Huisje presents the story of an abandoned house guarded by the ghost of an old woman, who has a well developed plot orchestrated and set for a good music. Alberto Rodriguez tells a nice story in 3D: The wrong glasses. Lisa and Wilson are an elderly couple living in a small apartment together with their pets: Fredy, a strange fish of a species and Fabio, also a cat in years. All is harmonious until an oversight that makes a series of accidents happen with little luck for pets.

A short film that criticizes a problem of modern human society. It is a piece based on a non-narrative, that through the use of strong imagery and repetitive animation spread the message. This idea revolves around which the short film from the Greek Georgios Cherouvim entitled Theros. A 3D reconstruction searching across image contemplate the current social problems. "In your own home, in your own room ... when you least expect it. The worst of your nightmares may appear tonight ..." Watch around you, then there may be a night visitor to make you a night of terror. This animation of Xavi Morcillo premieres close this billboard today.

Friday releases to welcome the weekend

In this final stretch of the reception of works in competition, we present the last Friday releases before the start of the voting time by the audience, to welcome a weekend will also be full of new animation releases. This Friday are five, yes, five films for all ages, with works made in stop-motion, clay and 2D, including works with a mixture of techniques, with arguments and experimental constructions. Today, we present animations coming from Spain, Greece, Singapore and Norway.

The Galician animation studies Artefacto Producciones presents one of its most decorated clay productions: O coidador de gatos (The cat-sitter). Directed by Fernando Cortizo, this animation tells the story of a man with a mind-numbing drudgery and that is rewarded when they go out of their work, feed the cats on the streets of Pontevedra. Ilias Sounas repeats participation in Animacam, after being the winner in the First Edition of Animacam with Space Alone, presents a new 2D computer animation: Happy Cloud, an allegorical animation happy for the love and hope, focusing on finding soul mate, which is often closer than we think. The snail of the slope is one of the new arrivals from Singapore to work hand in hand with Vladimir Todorovic, is a film based on a book of the same name by Strugatsky brothers. The novel is set on an unknown planet, where humans have a base from which we are investigating and trying to conquer the Forest.

Fco Salinas Gabriel Aguero
, is an
Spanish animator who is specialized in the creation and visual search of new trends. On this occasion, presents to the Third Edition of Animacam his work Subterfuge and placebos, a search of dream and audiovisual experimentation from a poetic text, intended to represent the feelings of the base creating a universe of feelings, beauty and pop surreal. Finally, the Norwegian brothers from Tanjets Films, Erik and Runne Eriksson, a new media clip shows, in a tone of humor that tells as was the goal of the Hand of God Diego Maradona in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup of Mexico '86 which pitted Argentina against England.
