325 films from 66 countries are competing in Animacam.tv 2010

After finishing the Submission of Films, from today until October the 23, the public around the world can vote their favourite film through the website. They will decide the three films winners of this Edition. Participants will compete for three prizes of € 2,000 each, within the three Categories (Short Film, Multimedia and Retrospective). The awards of this International Festival of Animation Online, based in Ourense - Spain, it is sponsored by XACOBEO S.A.

In the Official Competition of this third edition, there are 325 films of 200 Directors from 66 countries of the five continents (Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cuba, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Lithuania, Morocco, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Peru, Republic of the Congo, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, USA, Uruguay, Uzbekistan and Venezuela).

The Themes of the films were varied and plural: social denunciation against war, repression, violence and racism, the fears, phobias and personal affairs, the familiar and couples relationships, etc. This year, the satirical and burlesque sense of humour had strong presence, annoyed by the current crisis and its own human social dramas of everyday life. It is also remarkable the large number of projects that express their message through visual poems, seeking to give the image the highest artistic expression.

The Authors of the animations come from a wide and diverse range of ages and backgrounds: from young animators, through global industry professionals (like BRB International, creator of the cartoon landmarks as David The Gnome or Sandokan), to veterans in Central America (Joaquin Carrasquilla from Panama) and Europe (the Italian Federico Anastasi). Among many other remarkable works, this year we have the nominated for an Oscar in 2010 and awarded with the Spanish Goya in 2009 "The lady and the reaper" –produced by Antonio Banderas-, and the documentary made by the Divulgare Group from the University of Vigo, titled "The importance of lizards in island systems” (Science Oscar Award by the magazine The Scientist), based on a study of the National Park of the Atlantic Islands in northwest of Spain.

At the same time, the Festival received the participation of students from prestigious animation training schools in Europe (such as Gobelins the Ecole de Image of France) and America (like Vancouver Film School in Canada).

This Year, there was released in the Official Section, Cartoons Made by Children.
Such is the case of PDA (Little Animated Doodles) a Catalonian initiative which takes part around the world to make animated films with children between 8 and 12 years old. From the United Kingdom, the Festival also received two films made by children coursing 4th of Primary, directed by the animator David Bunting, and from Galicia (Spain), students in 4th of Secundary from the Pino Manso High School in O Porriño (Pontevedra), developed in traditional 2D short film, which it is in post-production process, and it was led by the mentor Carlos Lago, Professor of Plastic Education.

The Presence of Women Animators, this third year, was very striking
: whereas in 2008 (the date of the 1st Edition) women's representation was limited to five animators, in this third we had more than fifty authors showing their works, with outstanding women animators such as the French Monique Renault or the Spanish María Lorenzo, and new animation talents such it is the case of Maryam and Azadeh Khalilzade Moezzi, from Iran.

The painter of skies by Jorge Morais

From the darkness of the lost cliffs, a crazy painter, marked by his past, and his faithul assistant try to find a solution against perpetual storms. Sea is destroying their home. A magic boiler and some tormented ghosts will help them to find the light.

"The story of The painter of skies was born from something as simple as the vision I have of me working at home. Let me explain ... I live about 50 meters from the sea in a house with a huge glass wall, so I can enjoy magnificent views of "ria valley" of Vigo. If you realise how much time I spend working at home and how hard it is sometimes put things to take projects forward, and almost have the story told. All I had was getting the right atmosphere and attractive for the short and Galicia made me easy."

We the divided

An island civil war results in the separation of two childhood friends, and the construction of a barrier.

We the Divided is an excellent thesis project by Ryan Chen, a student at UCLA, University of Southern California. This story, which has taken over two years of work on modeling, texturing, and that uses a well-done and exquisite 3D, is currently in distribution period festivals around the world.

We start this 1st of September with new releases!

On Wednesday, the first day of September, we present five new works in the Official Section of the Festival, among which we can differentiate different techniques (from a new 3D, via traditional 2D works and also made in flash), different themes and arguments (apocalyptic stories , funny anecdotes and spaces dedicated to humour). This time, the animation works in competition are coming from Spain, Norway, Germany and the United States.

The animator Ryan Chen, of the film school at the University of Southern California, presents a 3D animation set in a civil war that causes the separation of two great friends on both sides in We the divided. Gabriel Fco. Salinas brings us a music video for the Multimedia category with the song Vacaciones en Francia of the album Cactus, played by the band Jet 7 on moving from Madrid to Paris to see the corners of the French capital.
